Annual FAA Commercial Space Transportation Conference
Commercial Space as a Stimulus for Innovation & Inspiration toward the Moon, Mars & Beyond представитель SpaceX.
FAA- The idea of reusing boosters was a pipe dream a few years ago. Today, it’s routine.
- Yesterday #FalconHeavyLaunch was a day the entire the #aerospace industry took a giant step forward. An American company on American soil.
- we need streamlined regulatory processes. We need to license launches faster, but industry has to improve safety performance as well.
- The #FAA has an important role to play in this process. Our job isn’t just to ensure the #safety of America’s airspace. It’s to ensure equal access to it.
- working to provide more immediate relief for regulatory issues, such as reducing administrative paperwork, while working on other reforms.
Phil Smith из Bryce Space and Technology (консалтинговая компания в области аэроспейс)
- 2017 space launch by the numbers: Of 90 total orbital launches, 57 were for governments, 33 were commercial and 23 were FAA licensed (большей частью благодаря SpaceX) - the highest ever;
- US had 54% of the launches; in 2011, it was ZERO!
- 30 new vehicles being introduced in the next 5 years; even more being designed
Mark Sirangelo из Sierra Nevada Corporation!!!- NASA has given us authority to proceed for first Dream Chaser cargo mission to the ISS, planned for late 2020.
Scott Pace - In ten years, ideally commercial space industry will care less about the government. With deep space, partnerships, but other areas have huge demand and resources, and govt relationship will be more arm's length.
Congress asked for a transition plan, and that and the budget proposal will be out soon. We should utilize the ISS as much as we can in the remaining time it has.
- One of the best things commercial space can do for exploration is to be successful so we can build on it and go further.
Blue Origin- we hope to launch New Shepard suborbital vehicle multiple times a week. Flying from our own range, we have to handle the whole spectrum of operations, so quite a learning experience.
- our test site in west Texas among the most unpopulated regions in the country. But for almost every test flight there we have had airspace incursion or other issues.
- Blue Origin has had some “recent good tests” of the BE-4 engine, but no specifics.
Moon Express- commercial ventures offer a faster way for NASA to implement a lunar exploration program. We will be ready to offer lunar landing services next year.
Bigelow AerospaceBigelow Aerospace hints of announcements to come in the near future about the company’s plans, including a placeholder for a “Bigelow Space Operations” website:
http://www.bigelowspaceops.com/SpaceX- SpaceX looking forward to being part of your transportation solution, whether LEO, GEO, moon, Mars, or wherever.
NanoRacks- the reuse of in-space hardware, like converting upper stages into modules, is a pathway to specialized platforms for specific applications, versus a very general platform like ISS.
Don’t get me wrong; I love government customers, I really do. But to succeed in space over the long run, we need real commercial customers and markets to make commercial space a success.
- We live in extraordinary times - at Nanoracks,
we have 5 new customers a week; some are funded by crowdsourcing! And the government has been consistently supportive over three consecutive Administrations - it’s just extraordinary!
